Frequently Asked Questions
We are sorry to hear about your delayed bag, however SkyTeam cannot track or trace missing luggage. To inquire about lost baggage or items, you must contact the airline directly using the reference number you were given when you reported your bag as lost.
The policies of SkyTeam member airlines may differ when you connect between airlines. Using SkyTeam’s Carry-on Calculator makes it easy to plan what to bring on board.
The policies of SkyTeam member airlines may differ based on your selected airline, your ticket, cabin class and Frequent Flyer Program tier level. Please contact the airline directly for the most accurate guidelines and baggage allowance.
Not necessarily. Even when flying with SkyTeam member airlines, baggage transfer is not guaranteed if your flights are booked on separate tickets.
Here’s what you need to know:
On a single ticket (through-ticketed itinerary): Your luggage is typically transferred automatically between SkyTeam airlines.
On separate tickets: Airlines are not obliged to transfer your bags, even if both flights are with SkyTeam members. You may need to collect your baggage, clear customs, and recheck it for your next flight.
To avoid issues:
Contact the first airline before your trip and ask if they can interline your baggage to the final destination, especially when flying between SkyTeam airlines (unless prohibited by the country where you transfer).
Always allow extra time between flights in case manual recheck is needed.
Note: Policies vary between airlines and airports, so it’s best to confirm in advance.
If your baggage is delayed, damaged, or lost, report it immediately to the operating airline of your final flight segment — ideally at the airport before leaving the baggage claim area.
Even on SkyTeam itineraries involving multiple airlines, the final operating carrier is responsible for handling baggage issues.
SkyTeam itself does not handle individual baggage claims — these must be resolved with the airline.
If you booked through one airline but flew with another, check your itinerary for “operated by” information to know who to contact.
Many SkyTeam member airlines also allow baggage claims to be submitted online. Please check with the operating carrier if that option is available.
SkyTeam Airline Alliance Management Coöperatie U.A. is a separate legal entity from its member airlines and does not manage bookings, ticketing, points, mileage, kilometres accrual, or customer claims, and holds no direct commercial relationship with passengers. For case-specific assistance, please contact the operating airline Customer Service directly.
